Amino acids

Amino acids are organic compounds that form the basis of proteins and are essential for life and cell function. There are 20 different amino acids that can be combined in different sequences to form different proteins. These amino acids can be classified as either essential (the body cannot produce them itself, so they must be supplied through the diet) or non-essential (the body can synthesize them itself).

Amino acids are involved in a number of biological processes, including cell structure, enzymes, hormones, the immune system and the transportation of nutrients. Protein-rich foods such as meat, dairy products, legumes and nuts are important sources of amino acids. Amino acid supplements are also used, especially in fitness environments, to support muscle growth and recovery. Ensuring adequate intake of amino acids through a balanced diet is essential for optimal health and wellbeing.
