Iodine

Iodine is an essential trace element that plays a crucial role in the normal functioning of the body. This element is necessary for the production of thyroid hormones, which are essential for the regulation of metabolism. Thyroid hormones affect growth, development and energy metabolism in the body.

The human body does not have the ability to produce iodine naturally, therefore it must be supplied through the diet. Good sources of iodine include seafood, dairy products, seaweed and some types of salt that are iodized. Iodine deficiency can lead to thyroid problems, especially goitre, which is an enlarged thyroid gland. On the other hand, excessive intake of iodine is also unfavorable. Balanced intake of this trace element is essential for optimal health, especially for thyroid function.
