Bentonite is a naturally occurring clay with remarkable absorbent properties that have made it popular in a variety of applications. It is mainly formed from volcanic ash and is rich in minerals such as silicon, iron, calcium and sodium. The most common form is sodium bentonite.
Due to its high absorption capacity and ability to bind to toxins, bentonite is often used in industry to purify water, as a drilling fluid in oil well drilling and in ceramics production. It has also found its way into health and beauty products, particularly in face masks and detox blends, where it is believed to help remove impurities from the skin.
