About using SHIFT Magnesium for the Oslo Marathon

SHIFT Magnesium contains 200 mg of magnesium per tablet, mainly in the form of magnesium malate and bisglycinate. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function, normal energy-yielding metabolism, electrolyte balance and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

How to optimize magnesium intake before and after a race?

If you are already taking magnesium regularly, you can continue as normal leading up to the race. Magnesium is stored mainly in the bones and muscles, and levels build up over time. Therefore, starting with high doses just a few days before the competition has limited effect.

High doses also increase the risk of stomach upset.

How to use SHIFT Magnesium before a race

The days before the race: 1 tablet daily, preferably in the evening or with a meal.

On the day of the race: 1 tablet before the race, preferably with breakfast.

Post-race: 1 tablet the same day or the day after the race as part of your normal recovery routine. Preferably with a meal.

For best effect over time

Magnesium is a mineral the body needs every day. If you train regularly, you may want to continue taking 1 tablet daily, even between competitions and training periods.

Regarding stomach problems on race day

Magnesium malate and bisglycinate are very stomach-friendly forms of magnesium. If you have tolerated 1 tablet of SHIFT Magnesium daily in the days before the race, it is unlikely that you will suddenly experience loose stomach on race day. However, some people are sensitive to magnesium supplements in general, especially in combination with a nervous stomach after a race, coffee, energy drinks or a lot of sports drinks. If this is you, it may be a good idea to wait with the magnesium tablet until after the race.
