Using SHIFT Magnesium for the Oslo Marathon

SHIFT Magnesium contains 200 mg of magnesium per tablet, primarily in the forms of magnesium malate and magnesium bisglycinate. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function, normal energy metabolism, electrolyte balance, and helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.

How to optimize magnesium intake before and after a race

If you already take magnesium regularly, you can continue your normal routine leading up to the race. Magnesium is stored mainly in the bones and muscles, and levels build up over time. Therefore, starting with high doses just a few days before a competition is unlikely to provide significant benefits.

Higher doses may also increase the risk of digestive discomfort.

How to use SHIFT Magnesium before a race

In the days leading up to the race: Take 1 tablet daily, preferably in the evening or with a meal.

On race day: Take 1 tablet before the race, preferably with breakfast.

After the race: Take 1 tablet on the same day or the day after the race as part of your normal recovery routine. Preferably with a meal.

For long-term benefits

Magnesium is a mineral your body needs every day. If you exercise regularly, it may be beneficial to continue taking 1 tablet daily, including between competitions and training periods.

Regarding digestive issues on race day

Magnesium malate and magnesium bisglycinate are generally considered highly stomach-friendly forms of magnesium. If you have tolerated 1 tablet of SHIFT Magnesium daily in the days leading up to the race, it is unlikely that you will suddenly experience loose stools on race day.

However, some individuals are particularly sensitive to magnesium supplements in general, especially when combined with race-day nerves, coffee, energy drinks, or large amounts of sports drinks. If this applies to you, it may be a good idea to wait until after the race to take your magnesium tablet.
